Anaheim Ducks: Ranking the Ducks’ alternate jerseys from worst to best
By Kyle McKenna
5. The Original Webbed “D”
NHL fans alike should already recognize this sweater and that’s because it’s been the Ducks’ home jersey since the start of the 2014-15 campaign. However, the original webbed “D” jersey was officially unveiled as the team’s fifth alternate jersey back in 2010-11.
This was a solid third jersey and an improvement from the some of the previous alternates unveiled, hence why a modified version of it now serves as a primary sweater for Anaheim. Yet, it’s forgotten as an alternate jersey for that very same reason.
Since the jersey was worn more often than other teams donning alternates from 2010-14, it definitely lost a majority of its’ third jersey swagger. It’s understandable at the time that the team had a good idea that this would potentially be the team’s primary layout and design for sweaters in the near future, but the fact that its primary base-color was black was somewhat disappointing.
It had too much of a similar appearance to the (then) current home jersey and that’s regardless of the fact that the team used its alternate logo as the main crest for this sweater. While the team eventually introduced two orange-based jerseys further down the line, 2010 would have been the right time for the team to experiment with an orange alternate that also entailed the webbed “D” crest.
That direction mentioned above arguably could have impacted the current home and away jerseys’ excitement that much more when they were introduced full-time back in 2014-15. Also, having piping down the sides of the jerseys may have cost this jersey a spot so low on this list, too.
