Minnesota Wild reward Jason Zucker with new deal after record year

The Minnesota Wild have agreed to a five-year, $27.5 million deal with free agent Jason Zucker in a move to help solidify their offense for the next five years.

The Minnesota Wild bring back Jason Zucker to help their offense after he had a record year last year. He recorded 64 points and 44 penalty minutes in 88 games. The 26-year-old forward set career highs in points, goals and games. It’s always impressive when a player can live up to his potential, and the Wild recognized that in Zucker.

Minnesota is trying to better its offense with this deal. The Wild know what he brings on and off the ice. A 2010 second round pick in the NHL entry draft by the Wild, Zucker is a home-grown player who has shown improvement over last seven seasons.

Zucker brings the ability to score goals and adds depth to the Wild’s offense. However, he may want to clean up those penalty minutes. He also put up zero points in the offseason, which left his contract status in question.

The Wild, in signing the contract, seem to be confident in his abilities and the hope he can build on last year. There are trying to solidify their ability to contend in the tough Central division.

This is pretty big contract for the Wild to take on, but it looks like it will pay off. Minnesota is rewarding a player for his hard work and improvement. Zucker will make an average of $5.25 million a year. They are impressed not only with his play, but his leadership . He was a finalist for the 2018 King Clancy award for his humanitarian efforts.

It will be interesting to see how this signing works out for both sides. Five years is a big commitment no matter what, but overall it’s a smart move.
