Philadelphia Flyers: 5 burning questions for 2018-19 season
3. Will JVR have another outstanding season goal-scoring wise?
General manager Ron Hextall finally went out and made a splash in free agency as he brought James van Riemsdyk back to the Flyers on a five-year deal. Believe it or not, Philadelphia is the only team JVR has signed a contract with throughout his career. He was traded to Toronto after being in Philadelphia originally and then, of course, signed back this summer when he was a free agent.
This move was to bolster the Flyers goal-scoring as you can never have enough pure goal scorers on your team.
JVR has been outstanding his last two seasons in Toronto and now that he’s back in Philadelphia, expectations for him will be to put up those kinds of numbers year in and year out. In the 2016-2017 season, he had 29 goals and 62 points, the 62 points being a career high. This past season, he had 36 goals and 54 points, with the 36 goals being a career high. This was his second 30 goal season of his career and the fourth time he’s put up 50 or more points in a season.
He’s going to slot in on of the top two lines this season, figuratively. Whether he produces up there like he did the past two seasons, though, will be interesting to see.
