Arizona Cardinals: 5 burning questions in 2018
2. Will David Johnson bounce back?
Cardinals fans don’t want to contemplate whether or not Johnson’s prolific 2016 campaign was an aberration. He put up 1,239 yards rushing on just 293 carries that season. Unfortunately, a wrist injury limited him to just one game last season.
Johnson and the coaching staff are adamant he is healthy and ready to go this season. The Cardinals’ offense better hope he’s right. They need him to return to something close to a Pro Bowl level to help give their attack balance. If he doesn’t, the team may turn to fourth round draft pick Chase Edmonds to carry the load.
The best news for Johnson is that he should have an excellent offensive line to run behind. If they can stay healthy, guys like Mike Iupati and Justin Pugh should create big holes for him to run through. Don’t rule out the possibility of Johnson breaking the 1,000 yard barrier once again.
In many ways, Johnson will be like a new signing for the Cardinals this year. That cliché gets thrown around much too often, but it really is true when a player misses 15 games in the previous season. Getting Johnson back to his best should be a massive boost for the Arizona offense.
