5. Dante Pettis, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are heading into the second year of the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch era. Their first year was a solid showing especially when you factor in that they were able to acquire franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

They are hoping that more time in Shanahan’s system result in better production and consistency. The health of the roster and some new additions will also play a role.

Rookie Dante Pettis is one of the newcomers expected to make an impact. He’s a major deep threat who also has the fluidity to create separation. His offseason performance thus far has really turned heads.

Peter Panacy over at Niner Noise recently wrote about that very topic. Pettis’ name routinely comes up as standout performer.

As it stands, he is battling Trent Taylor and Aldrick Robinson for the No. 3 receiver job. Taylor appears to have the inside track. However, I fully expect things to change as training camp progresses.

Pettis is too explosive and brings too much upside to the table. His fantasy numbers should be solid with more targets coming as he becomes more comfortable.

Another factor to consider is that Pettis is a very strong return man. He could provide some fantasy value to those leagues that utilize this area of the game.
