WWE has announced Jeff Hardy will be going up against Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States championship at Summerslam, in regards of speculation that he was injured.

WWE has announced on their official website that Jeff Hardy will be going up against Shinsuke Nakamara for the United States championship at the Summerslam PPV this month.

This may come as a surprise to some considering Hardy has been working a program with Randy Orton , who recently turned heel.

With Orton turning heel on Hardy as of late, many would’ve indicated that Hardy would be wrestling a singles match against Orton, or have a triple-threat with both Orton and Nakamura.

Although plans could change between now and Summerslam and WWE could always add Orton to the U.S title match. Plus, it’s hard to believe that WWE would substitute Orton out of their second biggest PPV of the year, as Orton is still considered one of WWE’s biggest stars of the company.

Orton has a lot of momentum going into Summerslam, despite no advertised to wrestle on the show. A heel turn was something that many felt needed to be done, since a lot of people pointed out that Orton as a babyface character wasn’t all that interesting.

With Orton being remained as one of WWE’s last remaining veterans from the “Ruthless Aggression” era, it’s good for WWE to find something for Orton to do as it felt over the past few years that creative wise, there wasn’t much left for Orton to do.

And same goes with Jeff Hardy, as it seems WWE has found something meaningful for him to do creatively. He first came to Smackdown as a singles wrestler and wasn’t really doing much from the start.

A long-term program with Hardy and Orton could potentially be must-watch TV, if WWE can execute it right.
