Fantasy Baseball 2018: Stream German Marquez Against Pittsburgh
By Bill Pivetz
German Marquez has a favorable matchup in his next start and should be considered as a fantasy baseball streaming option.
The old fantasy baseball mantra was to avoid all starting pitchers making a start in Coors Field. The park is known to be very hitter friendly and would result in a lot of crooked numbers on the stat line. However, that isn’t the case this season. German Marquez has pitched well recently and has another favorable matchup coming up.
Marquez makes his next start on August 8 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. If he isn’t owned in your league, he is a must-start in all formats.
Marquez’s home stats don’t look that great. He has a 6.63 ERA, 1.707 WHIP and 12 home runs allowed in 11 starts. His away numbers are a bit better with a 3.09 ERA, 1.045 WHIP and eight home runs allowed in as many starts.

Despite that, Marquez has five quality starts in his last six games, two of which were at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics, two power-hitting teams.
He held the D-Backs to two runs over six innings and the A’s to two runs over 7.2 innings. His start against the Pirates should go to the same way.
The Pirates are hitting .215 so far this month with two home runs and 14 runs scored. They are hitting .248 on the road this season.
With not much power or contact coming from this team, no 20-home run hitters and only two hitters batting over .280, Marquez should notch another quality start.
Marquez also benefits from having a good offense behind him. With DJ LeMahieu back in the lineup to support Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and recently hot Carlos Gonzalez, Marquez should get the win.
He has a high strikeout rate, 9.5 K/9, but an eyebrow-raising walk rate, 3.2 BB/9. If he can limit the free passes, Marquez will help with your ratio stats as well as strikeouts.
Marquez is owned in just 25.4 percent of ESPN leagues. The Rockies face some top teams in the final two months so he may not be worth starting for every game but if the matchup is right, like this one, Marquez could provide some short-term value.
