THE PROPOSAL – “110” – Ten eligible men selected by a blue-ribbon panel of matchmakers vie for a chance at love with Dr. Celine, a mystery woman looking for the one who can mend her broken heart, on “The Proposal,” MONDAY, AUG. 13 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. 3. Jesse Palmer: Dating shows

Most people under the age of 25 might not believe that Jesse Palmer had a career outside of hosting shows on ABC, but he was actually once a football player. The ex-Bachelor was selected in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL draft by the New York Giants.

Palmer went on to play four seasons with the Giants, mostly backing up then-starter Kerry Collins. Palmer bounced around between various practice squads and the CFL until 2007, when he retired and began his broadcasting career.

In 2004, Jesse Palmer was selected to be The Bachelor. He was the first Canadian to be featured on the show and the first of many professional athletes to join Bachelor Nation. In the show’s finale, Palmer chose Jessica Bowlin, but the two split just months after the show ended.

Palmer remained close with his friends at ABC and is now the host of the most mind-bendingly stupid show on television, The Proposal. If you haven’t been lucky enough to watch the show, here is a breakdown for you:

A hidden bachelor or bachelorette sits behind a veil and judges potential fiancé(e)s based on several minutes of looks and answering questions. The contestants are narrowed down to a final two and their potential husband or wife is then revealed to them.

Immediately they see each other for the first time, the final two contestants each pitch their suitor and one of the two proposes/gets proposed to. It’s probably the dumbest concept ever created for a television show, but Palmer absolutely rocks it as the show’s host.

However ridiculous, it opens with these absolutely hilarious clips of the “hidden” bachelor(ette):

Palmer will live on through dating shows for all of eternity. Look for him to be hosting “Tinder Wedding” in 2025, where couples who both swipe right are immediately married on the spot and given three infant children to care for.

Update: Surprisingly enough, four out of seven couples from The Proposal are still together, maybe “love at first judgmental game show” is actually legit.
