MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 10th

Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 14 games with, New York (5.4), Boston (5.3), Los Angeles (5.3), Colorado (5.3), and Arizona (5.1), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement and stolen base upside.

MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Nick Castellanos – DK $3900

Other than the series against the Dodgers, Nick Castellanos was struggling to put up impressive fantasy numbers throughout most of late July. This lack of production caused a price drop, however, this may be an opportunity to “buy low”, as his batted ball stats have remained fairly constant. In the last 15 days his batted ball distance is up 9 feet, his exit velocity is down 1 MPH and his hard hit percentage is down 9%, over his yearly average. Castellanos was priced as high as $5100 on DraftKings last month, so this may be an attractive buying opportunity at only $3900.

Batter Splits

Salvador Perez – DK $3700

Salvador Perez will draw an advantageous matchup, as he faces the lefty, Austin Gomber. Perez is much better against left-handed pitching, as he holds a .334 wOBA split (.060 better than when facing a righty) and a .263 ISO split (.097 better than when facing a righty). Perez does offer value among the top-tier catching options tonight, and always has home run upside.

Nick Williams – DK $4000, FD $

Nick Williams will also be on the positive end of a lefty vs. righty split. Williams will face the righty, Jacob Nix. He is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .348 wOBA split (.030 better than when facing a lefty) and a .219 ISO split (.134 better than when facing a lefty).

Line Movement

Detroit Batters

Detroit will host the visiting Minnesota Twins tonight, in a game in which the Twins opened as -125 favorites. Since opening, this line has moved towards the Tigers, and now sits at -109. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also changed. The game total opened at 8.5 runs, but is now up a half of a run, to a juiced 9. Detroit will face Ervin Santana, who has failed to reach fantasy value in each of his last three starts. In the last 15 days (2 games), his opposing batted ball distance is up 12 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 12%, over his yearly average.

Stolen Base Upside

Seattle Runners

There are some very interesting base running matchup tonight, featuring pitchers that are very susceptible to good base runners. One of these matchups, is Seattle runners vs. Gerrit Cole. Cole has surrendered 13 stolen bases over the course of 146.1 innings pitched this year. This should benefit players like Dee Gordon and Jean Segura.

Boston Runners

Boston Redsoxs’ batters should also be licking their chops, as they will face the righty, Dylan Bundy. Bundy has been even more susceptible to stolen bases, as he’s allowed 14 stolen bases over the course of 121.1 innings pitched. This will boost the value of players like Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi.
