Following the World Cup and the summer break, the Premier League is back. In the second game of the season, Newcastle host Tottenham at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle finished 10th last season. The Magpies were good but not great defensively last season but struggled at times to score goals. Newcastle added Jose Saloman Rondon from West Brom with the hopes of improving their attack. Rondon scored 10 goals in all competitions last season and should be an upgrade for Newcastle. Kenedy joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea in the winter window last season. After failing to appear in a game for the Blues, Kenedy enjoyed a strong second half of the season with the Magpies and will look to build on his successes last season.

Tottenham finished third last season behind both Manchester clubs. Spurs enter the season again expecting to qualify for Champions League. However, while the other top six clubs all made additions, Tottenham have not signed a single player. Mauricio Pochettino will rely on the same set of players that finished 23 points behind Premier League champion Manchester City. Spurs will rely on Harry Kane, Christen Eriksen and Dele Alli to continue driving the attack. The trio are among the best players in the Premier League and helped the club score 74 goals last season.
