Philadelphia Eagles – The return of Carson Wentz

Wentz was on an MVP track through almost 13  games last year, with close to 3,300 passing yards and 33 touchdowns through the air. But a torn left ACL late in that 13th game against the Los Angeles Rams sidelined him for the rest of the season, and the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning run culminated without him.

Week 1 will be approximately nine months post-injury for Wentz, and the team is exercising great caution during training camp. To that end, and probably as expected, Wentz is not expected to play at all during the preseason. His status for the season opener against Atlanta Falcons will surely be a closely guarded secret, but having Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in place gives the Eagles the easy luxuries of caution and secrecy with Wentz.

If it’s possible for a defending Super Bowl champion to be better in any area during a follow-up season, the Eagles are in line to get there when Wentz takes his job back from Foles.

It’s hard to repeat as Super Bowl champions, and the Eagles will catch no one by surprise this year. But Wentz’s fairly quick progress, and eventual return to 100 percent health, is the leading source of excitement for Eagles’ fans this year.
