Top 10 fantasy quarterbacks for 2018
By Grant Tuttle
No. 8 – Tom Brady, New England Patriots
It seems ridiculous to put Tom Brady at number eight on this list on the surface. However, Brady is now 41 and seems to have less talent on offense. That being said, he could not be taken out of the top 10 because of his past successes. Despite his age, he led the Patriots to the Superbowl, where they would come up short after another great season.
Brady’s top option will undoubtedly be Rob Gronkowski this season. The team’s number one wide receiver, Julian Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy. Furthermore, the Patriots traded away Brandin Cooks to the Rams and waived Jordan Matthews and Malcolm Mitchell.
Currently, the opening day starters for the Patriots receiving corp. are as follows: WR1: Chris Hogan, WR2: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR3: Phillip Dorsett and of course, Gronkowski at tight end. Even with the recent addition of Eric Decker, it does not seem that the Patriots have a lot of talent at this position.
However, good quarterbacks make their receivers better. Even if Brady does not have the same successes that he has had in previous years, he will likely be a top fantasy player again this season.
No. 7 – Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans
Before injury, Deshaun Watson was one of the league’s top fantasy performers. As a rookie, he led the Texans to victory in three of the seven games that he played in. Although he threw some 50/50 balls up for grabs that he paid for, he also threw 19 touchdown passes in seven games.
Along with his passing touchdowns, Watson also tallied up 269 rush yards and two rushing touchdowns. He is a dual threat quarterback which almost immediately makes him a great fantasy option. His top passing target is DeAndre Hopkins, who is an excellent guy to throw 50-50 passes to. On the other side of the field Will Fuller has exceptional speed.
The Texans are in a highly competitive AFC South where it will likely take their absolute best to win games. This is another reason Watson will have a lot of fantasy points. If the game is close, the quarterback is throwing the football. If Watson bounces back from injury and can play at the same level for an entire season, he will be a top fantasy quarterback for 2018.
