Breakout star to watch: Greg Dortch, Wake Forest

Wake Forest may not get the same level of attention as some other schools in the ACC, but they do have one of the league’s most exciting young players. Wide receiver Greg Dortch is an absolute weapon for Dave Clawson and the Demon Deacon offense.

The fleet-footed receiver put up great numbers as a freshman before his season was cut short due to an abdominal injury. He should be fully healthy when the 2018 season begins and that’s bad news for ACC defensive backs.

Last season, Dortch caught 53 passes for 722 yards and nine touchdowns in just eight games. He was playing his best football when he went down due to injury. Look for him to pick up right where he left off.

He may just be 5-foot-9, but his speed is breathtaking. That gives him the ability to catch passes down the field behind the defense. However, he’s at his best when he’s able to catch shorter passes with room to run. Dortch is the sort of receiver who has the ability to catch a pass at the line of scrimmage and turn it into a long touchdown.

To put it simply, Dortch is one of those receivers you have to see to truly appreciate. If you haven’t had a chance to watch him play, take the opportunity in 2018.
