Arizona Cardinals – Andre Smith

It might have been more apt to nominate the entire Cardinals offensive line. Other than D.J. Humphries the whole group struggled mightily in 2017. Still, Andre Smith’s play was the most concerning.

Part of it is due to the fact that he plays at right tackle. It’s easier to hide as an inside lineman, but when Smith whiffs on a block it jumps out on film. With a fragile quarterback like Sam Bradford at the helm, the Cardinals are going to need to give Smith a ton of help on the edge to avoid disaster.

Los Angeles Rams – Tyler Higbee

The Rams have a lot of Corvettes on offense, but their starting tight end is more like a Gremlin. Jared Goff could certainly use a better safety blanket. Higbee isn’t really productive as a blocker or pass catcher. Instead, he’s below average at both things. Tight end is a position the Rams should address next offseason unless Higbee shows major growth.

San Francisco 49ers – Solomon Thomas

Thomas came into the NFL with a lot of hype as a first round pick in 2017. Unfortunately, his rookie season for the Niners was completely uninspiring. He only managed to produce three sacks from his defensive end position despite playing next to DeForest Buckner. He’ll need to double or triple that production in 2018 to live up to his draft status. It’s a big second season for Thomas.

Seattle Seahawks – Germain Ifedi

Similar to the Cardinals, the Seahawks had a nightmare season on the offensive line in 2017. Germain Ifedi was still the biggest culprit of the group at right tackle. His inability to pass block on the end put Russell Wilson in serious jeopardy.

Unfortunately, he’s looked even worse during the preseason. The Seahawks are hoping he’ll round into form when the regular season arrives, but they’re taking a major risk trusting Ifedi to protect their franchise quarterback.
