9. Lamont Peterson (35-4-1, 17 KOs)

Lamont Peterson is one of those guys who is really, really good but never quite reached the elite status.

Peterson has been in with some big names and is always a tough outing. Although he is not totally washed up, it is likely that he will be remembered as a gate-keeper of sorts. Everyone he lost to was either elite at the time, or Peterson proved to be the test to determine if his opponent was elite.

He lost to Tim Bradley in 2009, who went on to have a Hall of Fame-caliber career. He lost to Lucas Matthysse in 2013, who was at the peak of his career and jumped in popularity after knocking out Peterson. He would then lose to Danny Garcia in 2015 (despite many feeling Peterson was the rightful winner), who is viewed as a consensus top 5 welterweight. And his last loss came earlier this year at the hands of Errol Spence, who is among the pound for pound elite in the sport today.

That is the entire list of people who have defeated Peterson. If you can beat him, you are a world class fighter. He’s a tough veteran who fights the best.
