Indianapolis Colts – Johnny Unitas

The Indianapolis Colts have a pretty storied history in professional football, and have been a very successful team since being established back in 1953. Back then, the Colts were based in Baltimore as the Baltimore Colts, but all of that changed in 1983, when the team up and left Baltimore in the middle of the night.

During their days in Baltimore, the Colts were led by one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history in Johnny Unitas. Unitas led the Colts to four league championships, including three before the merger, and one in Super Bowl V. He played one season with the San Diego Chargers before hanging them up in 1973.

The Colts would mire in mediocrity until 1998, when they selected University of Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning with the No. 1 overall pick. The coin toss between Manning and Ryan Leaf proved to be a great one, as Manning went on to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, and Leaf eventually ended up in jail before turning his life around.

The jersey to have when it comes to throwbacks with the Colts would hearken back to their Baltimore days, and the year 1956. That was before the horseshoe on the helmet would be on the side, and was on the back of the helmet. The home whites they wore back then were subtle and clean, and is the one to have.

The Colts currently have another solid quarterback in Andrew Luck, though he has not played in a regular season game in over 600 days. If the Colts are to challenge in the AFC South, he needs to be 100 percent, because that division is going to be special in 2018.
