Cincinnati Bengals – Ickey Woods

The Cincinnati Bengals were established back in 1967, and played their first season of professional football in 1968. During that time, they were a member of the AFL, but when it came time for the AFL and NFL to merge, they made their way into the AFC Central division.

That is where the Bengals resided up until 2001, when they made the move to the AFC North division. In the history of their franchise, they have seen some success, making it to two Super Bowls, but are one of the 12 teams in the NFL who have never won the big game.

Back in the 1980s, the Bengals were actually one of the teams to beat in the AFC, left by left-handed quarterback Boomer Esiason. Boomer led the Bengals to the second of those two Super Bowl appearances, and unfortunately for him and the rest of the Bengals, they had to go up against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers.

Still, it is from that time in Bengals history that any fan should own a throwback jersey, especially of guys like Esiason and running back Ickey Woods. After falling on some hard times in the 1990s and early 2000s, the Bengals were a perennial playoff team from 2011-15, but have not made it back since.

The issue with this team is that they have not won a playoff game since Marvin Lewis became head coach, which happens to be over 15 years ago. If they do not win one again this season, expect them to turn the page.
