Week 5: Sept. 29 – Ohio State vs. Penn State (University Park, PA)

The Big Ten East could very well be decided with a critical game at the end of September. While that’s way early to decide a division in college football, it just so happens that’s when the Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions are scheduled to meet. It’s also the second game back for Buckeyes head coach, Urban Meyer, from suspension.

These two have had some of the most entertaining battles in the Big Ten in recent memory and now will do it again, but much earlier in the season. With big implications for both programs early in the season, this is the easy choice for College GameDay.

Trace McSorley is out to make a Heisman candidacy for himself this year and shows that he is college football’s superstar quarterback. The last time that Ohio State traveled to Penn State, the Nittany Lions upset the Buckeyes in one of the best games of the year.

This is a hostile environment and the crowd is going to be crazy. The Buckeyes come into the season with new faces on offense and Dwayne Haskins will have his hands full in his first full season under center for Ohio State.

The winner of this game likely takes the commanding lead in what should be a close Big Ten East race all season. Important conference football games aren’t just for the end of the season, as they are becoming commonplace in September as well.
