Edmonton Oilers

One of the NHL’s best, if not the best, forward in Connor McDavid has to win a Stanley Cup within the next five seasons, right?

Nothing, at all, has been easy for the Edmonton Oilers since the team last appeared in the Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes back in 2006. Other than landing McDavid in the 2015 NHL Draft Lottery, it’s been a nightmare in Western Canada for Oil Country.

Still, perhaps this younger squad of Oilers are finally the group of players that bring Lord Stanley back to Edmonton. Edmonton’s roster entails six players 30-years-old, or older, and two of those players are goaltenders in Cam Talbot and Mikko Koskinen.

Speaking of Talbot, it remains to be seen if he’s the true No. 1 goaltender that Edmonton thought it acquired from the New York Rangers back in 2015. While the defensive play should improve next season in front of the 31-year-old, if Talbot starts off  the season shaky in net – expect Edmonton to make a major move to upgrade between the pipes.

With that being said, one or two additions to Edmonton’s roster could place the Oilers in prime territory to hoist Lord Stanley. Plus, is there anything that McDavid can’t do out on the ice?

There’s no more waiting in Edmonton to win a Stanley Cup; the Oilers should be in contention for Lord Stanley over the course of the next handful of seasons.

If Edmonton can’t put it together this season, then the Oilers will by 2021 and win their first Stanley Cup since 1990.
