Predicting when every NHL team will win its next Stanley Cup
By Kyle McKenna
San Jose Sharks
There’s no denying that the San Jose Sharks have been one of the most consistent and exciting NHL teams for the last two decades. But “underachieving” has also been a consistent theme with the Teal, too.
If it weren’t for the Pittsburgh Penguins, perhaps San Jose would have already won its first Stanley Cup when the Sharks reached their first ever Final back in 2016. Still, it was a disappointing effort and the Sharks were outmatched by the Pens in six games.
Yet, what’s next for San Jose?
Don’t worry, the Bay Area will have another team other then the Golden State Warriors hosting parades in the city.
The team’s iconic leader in Joe Thornton arguably only has one more year left in his illustrious NHL career, or at least with the San Jose Sharks. The future Hockey Hall of Famer signed a one-year deal this past offseason, and it’s time for the Sharks to not only win for the sake of the Bay Area, but for Jumbo Joe.
San Jose has the depth in all areas on the ice to compete for a Stanley Cup over the course of the next handful of seasons, and the addition of a maturing Evander Kane will one day look like a genius transaction by general manager, Doug Wilson. Kane will produce and transform into the Sharks; top point-getter, plus Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture will have a string of all-star caliber campaigns.
The Sharks blue line is solid, especially with the dynamic Brent Burns. But if there was one area the team could improve it would be to add another top defenseman, and perhaps one that’s under the age of 30. There’s always hope to land Erik Karlsson, and even if it means as a rental player to win a Cup, finally.
However, the key for San Jose to win its first Stanley Cup championship is between the pipes with Martin Jones. He’s the x-factor to break the curse and help the Sharks win the Cup in 2019.
