Nebraska (-24.5) vs. Akron

The Mike Riley era of Nebraska Cornhuskers football was both short-lived and not much to talk about. After starting out with a 6-7 campaign in the 2015 season, he seemed to have some hope brewing with a 9-4 season the following year, despite a loss to Tennessee in the Music City Bowl. Though it may have been partially out of his control due to injuries and other factors, things then took a nose dive as the Huskers went an abysmal 4-8 last season, ultimately leading to his dismissal from his post.

With that, the way was made for Scott Frost, a former quarterback at Nebraska, to come back to Lincoln to try and lead the way for this program. Given that Frost is coming off of a season where he led the UCF Knights to an undefeated record, it’s safe to say that hopes are high for what he can do to turn around this Huskers team.

He’s already making waves as he announced the team’s first depth chart heading into their season-opener against the Akron Zips as he named true freshman Adrian Martinez the starting quarterback, the first true freshman to ever start the year at the position. And now it’s all about putting things into motion on the field.

This might be buying into the hype given the sizable nature of this spread, but I’m a firm believer in Frost, especially with a talented dual-threat quarterback like Martinez at his disposal. My belief is that they’re going to come out and make a statement in Week 1 of the college football season, much to the dismay of the Zips in this game.
