Miami (-3.5) vs. LSU

Another thing that you can take to the bank when looking at the 2018 college football season as a whole is that I’m going to have my questions about the Miami Hurricane. While I understand that there is immense talent on both sides of the ball, their consistency issues from a season ago will continue to be in the forefront of my mind when considering them. Furthermore, it’s going to be hard to forget how much starting quarterback Malik Rosier contributed to those issues with consistency.

When it comes to their marquee season-opening game against the LSU Tigers, however, I’m whole-heartedly in the corner of The U. Yes, part of that has to do with the fact that the Hurricanes, despite my doubts about them and their ceiling as a team, are a quality football team. But the other part of the equation is that I consider LSU to not be on that same tier of being a “quality team” this season.

Even with hope about Joe Burrow can finally be the answer for the Tigers at quarterback, I don’t believe it. And yes, I’m aware that LSU has some tremendous talent on defense once again in the form of players like Devin White and Greedy Williams. But has having a good defense and defensive studs kept them from being mediocre-at-best in recent years? The answer is a definitive no.

Despite how this game is being billed to start the season in a Sunday primetime slot, I’m just not buying the Tigers at all right now. They have a ton to prove before that happens and, while Miami isn’t a team I’ll back to the ends of the Earth, they are a team I feel confident in backing as 3.5-point favorites against a team they’re clearly better than right now.
