Manu Ginobili is getting recognition for his encounter with a bat nearly 9 years later

While it’s easy to list many memorable moments throughout Manu Ginobili’s historic career, it’s just as easy to forget some of them due to the plethora of memories he’s created. An event that often gets overlooked is his 2009 encounter with a bat. No, your eyes are not deceiving you, Ginobili came face-to-face with a live bat during a game nearly 9 years ago.

During the incident, many fans and players were left puzzled. It was nearly unprecedented, what does one do when a bat flies onto the court and interrupts an NBA game? Luckily, the stoppage was brief, thanks to Ginobili. The Argentine took matters into his own hands as he promptly swatted the bat out of mid-air. Problem solved.

Now, following his retirement from basketball, Terminix has reached out to the 41-year-old about a job. Terminix offered Ginobili a part-time job as a bat exterminator, a position they’ve kept open for him for the last nine years. Of course, the chances of Ginobili taking Terminix up on the offer are slim to none. But, shooters shoot, the pest control company sent Ginobili a letter anyways.

The incident will go down as one of the strangest things to happen in an NBA game, especially odd since it took place on Halloween night. It’s also worth noting that Ginobili not only swatted the bat out of mid-air, but carried it off the court as well. The bat ended up living, Ginobili ended up receiving a cautionary rabies shot and everybody watching went home with one heck of a story. Ginobili’s career accolades speak for themselves, but perhaps nothing is as impressive as the time he effortlessly swatted a bat out of mid-air and then continued playing.
