Nationality/College: American (UNC Greensboro)

2017-2018 stats: 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals per game (CSKA Moscow)

Career synopsis: Hines came over to Europe in the Italian second division, before starting what will be a nine-year Euroleague career with Brose Bamberg in 2011. He’s a three-time Euroleague Champion, starting at center for the 2012 and 2013 Olympiacos teams and winning with CSKA in 2016 as well. He has also been Euroleague best defender twice, in 2015-16 and this past season.

Representative Highlight Play:

What’s his skill set?: Watch Hines for a few minutes in a CSKA game, and you will see the 6-foot-6 center everywhere. He makes his living switching on the perimeter on defense, making hustle plays in transition, and facilitating CSKA’s legendary offense with smart short-roll passes and offensive rebounds. He might not touch the ball much, but Hines impacts the game on every possession.

What makes him special?: In addition to being one of Euroleague’s most versatile players, Hines, along with the next player on our list, is one of the most interesting players in Euroleague. He’s not only found the way to constantly play winning basketball on the court, he’s made it a mission to provide both fans and prospective American players a guide to what it takes to succeed in Euroleague. If you want to know more about what life is like for a Euroleague player, Hines is a must-follow, because his openness about his career is one of the best resources out there for Americans wanting to learn about basketball overseas.
