Lars Eller of the Washington Capitals has had enough of the harsh criticism that is levied upon Canadians captain Max Pacioretty.

Max Pacioretty has been the face of the Montreal Canadians his entire NHL career, but that comes with a cost.

Every NHL player who has played hockey in this sports-mad town draped with French culture can attest to the fact that winning is everything, and when the Canadians don’t win, the criticism will be swift and harsh.

That means Pacioretty, to no fault of his own, really, has received much of the blame for Montreal’s recent woes, and the Washington Capitals Lars Eller has had enough.

Jumping to Twitter, Eller’s went on the defense for the Canadians star, who is currently battling with Montreal for a contract extension.

He wasn’t finished, adding:

It was a classy move from Eller and one that needed to be done.

Pacioretty is one of the NHL’s top goal-scorers, but his production slipped last season, lighting the lamp only 17 times. Granted, Montreal was down all over the board last season as the team continues to suffer from the fallout of the disastrous P.K. Subban trade.

Everyone sucked for the Canadians, but somehow, Pacioretty stood out the most, and it was rather unfair. Now, his slip in production could cost him a much-earned extension, and we haven’t even gotten to the constant trade rumors that surround him.

On Thursday, Radio-Canada reported that Pacioretty wanted out of Montreal and was requesting a trade, but his agent, Allan Walsh, put the breaks on that rumor and fired off an angry tweet defending his client.

Is this how Montreal treats its stars? If so, why in the world would any star want to sign up for a duration if misery with a once-proud franchise?

Pacioretty doesn’t deserve the treatment he’s receiving in Montreal, which is why Eller made the right move to defend his buddy.
