2. Boise State Broncos (Mountain West Conference): 1-0

Boise State came in one spot behind UCF in the AP Top 25, but one spot ahead in the Coaches Poll, both before and after Week 1.

They are led by quarterback Brett Rypien, who was named to the watch list for every major award entering the season. The senior threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in the Broncos season-opener. Boise State thrashed Troy–who is no slouch, as you’ll see soon–56-20.

The Broncos lost first-round pick Leighton Vander Esch to the NFL, but defensive end Curtis Weaver will take his place harassing opposing quarterbacks.

Up next: Saturday versus UConn.

1. Central Florida Knights (American Athletic Conference): 1-0

They lost head coach Scott Frost, as well as fan-favorite defensive playmaker Shaquem Griffin, wide receiver Tre’quan Smith and tight end Jordan Akins. But the Knights picked up 2018 right where they left off in 2017.

They picked up an early conference win by beating UConn 56-17 on the road Friday. Returning quarterback McKenzie Milton perfectly executed new coach Josh Heupel’s offense. Milton threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns before giving way to backup Darriel Mack, Jr.

They opened the season ranked 21 in the AP and 23 in the Coaches Poll, and moved up to 19 in the AP and 20 in the Coaches after Week 1.
