Vegas Golden Knights

While the Vegas Golden Knights were one of the NHL’s best teams in 2018 and even reached the Stanley Cup Final, there aren’t too many options to explore when it boils down to who the team’s best player is that’s still searching for a Stanley Cup.

Marc-Andre Fleury would have qualified, but the former first-overall selection (2003) already collected three Stanley Cup rings while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009, 2016 & 2017).

Vegas, look no further than forward Jon Marchessault. The undrafted skater has played for four different teams in five seasons, but blossomed into an offensive threat when he joined the Florida Panthers in 2016-17. Marchessault finished that campaign with 30 goals and 21 assists for 51 points in a Panthers sweater.

Though, the Cap-Rogue, Quebec native proved that he wasn’t a fluke after he finished second on the Knights in scoring during the team’s inaugural season (2017-18). The 27-year-old netted 27 goals and tallied 48 assists for 75 points in 77 games played. Marchessault not only chipped in six power-play goals, but also six game-winning goals.

Marchessault didn’t slow down once the Stanley Cup Playoff arrived, either. The playmaker recorded 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 20 games played en route to the 2018 Stanley Cup Final.

The forward has been proving all of his doubters wrong, but unfortunately goes down as the Vegas Golden Knights’ best player that hasn’t yet won a Stanley Cup. Like Marchessault, Vegas proved its doubters wrong and it should be interesting to see if the Golden Knights win their first Stanley Cup before 10 other NHL teams that haven’t won yet.
