Bet the Bengals

Leaving aside the point spread, the Bengals are an easy bet to win outright on Sunday. There are too many lingering questions with Luck’s shoulder, until he shows it on the field in a meaningful game, and the Colts’ defense is still way too short on talent. It’s tough to make a confident bet on the Colts in any capacity until further notice.

In terms of the over/under, the under is almost too easy to bet and that’s where the sportsbook consensus is tilting toward right now.

The Colts are favored, and a win with a big game from Luck would be a nice feel-good story to kickoff the 2018 season in Indianapolis. But the Bengals are simply the better team, with far fewer question marks entering Week 1.

It isn’t the most exciting game on the NFL’s Week 1 schedule, as evidenced by the traditional television reach and (no offense to Andrew Catalon and James Lofton) the level of announcers CBS has assigned to it. But the Bengals are one of the best bets to win this week, so don’t overthink it.

Prediction: Bengals 27, Colts 17
