Vegas likes the Saints a lot

It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that this is the biggest line of Week 1. The Saints enter the season with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations while Dirk Koetter is a favorite to be the first coach fired in the NFL. This was never a question about who would be favored. Instead, the only suspense is learning just how many points the Saints would need to give up.

Per Oddsshark.com, you will need to give up 9.5 points to back the Saints in this one. That’s a big number, but it’s a mild surprise the spread didn’t land in double digits. That’s likely due to the general uncertainty Vegas assigns to Week 1 in the NFL.

Odds

Line: New Orleans (-9.5)

Over/Under: 49.5

The fact that the Saints will enjoy home field advantage in this one makes it even tougher for the Buccaneers to stay competitive. They will have to play a perfect game to hang in until the fourth quarter. That would require Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw for multiple touchdowns and zero interceptions. It’s unlikely Marshon Lattimore and company will let that happen.

The over/under is projecting fireworks in this game. 49.5 is a massive number for a season opener. The Saints should be able to hold up their end of the bargain, but expecting the Buccaneers to turn this into a shootout is pretty risky.

If you’re a fan of the Saints or Buccaneers then, by all means, block your day out for the entirety of this game. For neutral fans this one should be pretty boring after the first quarter or so.
