2019 NFL Mock Draft: Justin Herbert heads to Giants
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants had a rough start to the 2018 NFL season, as they had to welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars to Metlife Stadium in Week 1. The Jaguars are coming off a season that saw them make it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, and even without star running back Leonard Fournette for most of the game, the Jags were able to come away with the win.
Rookie running back Saquon Barkley showed flashes of what he can do when he has the ball in his hands, ripping off a 64-yard touchdown for his first NFL score. The plan was to get the ball in Odell Beckham Jr.’s hands as well, and they accomplished that, as he had 11 catches on the day.
The issue I see with this team is that they are very old at the quarterback position, and with all these young weapons on offense, they need to start thinking long-term. They have not drafted well at the position in recent years, so grabbing a guy like Justin Herbert with the fourth overall pick makes sense.
Herbert is off to a blazing start for Oregon, tossing nine touchdown passes through the first two games. He has the size, and arm to be a very good quarterback in this league, and with could be that successor to Manning that this organization has been looking for in the previous two NFL drafts.
