Start: Alfred Morris, San Francisco 49ers

vs. Detroit Lions

The Lions were a complete mess Monday night against the New York Jets. Their issues aren’t something that’s going to be corrected in one week. This is especially true for a run defense that surrendered 169 yards.

Detroit doesn’t have the beef upfront to consistently hold at the point of attack. Look for the San Francisco 49ers to take advantage of this fact.

Kyle Shanahan was forced to move away from the ground game last week against the Minnesota Vikings. They dealt with turnovers which changed the pace of the game. However, he’s a coach who wants to feature a dominant ground attack.

Alfred Morris is his grinder and a guy who can take advantage of Detroit’s weak interior.

Sit: Jamal Williams, Green Bay Packers

vs. Minnesota Vikings

Green Bay’s offensive line struggled to open up running lanes against the Chicago Bears. Things promise to only get tougher in week 2 against the Vikings. Jamal Williams is going to find it tough sledding this week.

The game plan may call for more of Ty Montgomery who can catch the ball out of the backfield as version of the running game. Williams’ status also depends on the health of Aaron Rodgers. Either way, I’m keeping Williams on my bench this week.
