College football AP Top 25: Week 4 winners and losers
Loser: Auburn Tigers (No. 7 down to No. 9)
On the flip side, Auburn fumbled a big-time opportunity away. No, the Tigers weren’t out-matched against LSU, but like the other Tigers, they, too, had a chance to beat their second ranked team on the young season and put themselves in good position to jump into that top-five talk.
Auburn didn’t look all that great, though. The passing game wasn’t as effective as it usually is and Jarrett Stidham had his second rough game against LSU in as many seasons.
Don’t count Stidham out of the Heisman Trophy conversation, however. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in college football and could very well bounce back to lead Auburn to the division title, but he has some work to do.
Losing at home to LSU is what hurts the most. Auburn had the game in the bag and they allowed the Tigers to drive down and get into field goal position and kick the game-winner as time expired.
Auburn has time to rebound from this, but it won’t be approaching the top-five for the time being, which is a tough blow for the squad.
