6. Oklahoma – Iowa State didn’t pull the upset this year, but gave the Sooners their toughest test of the season by a mile in the early season. Kyler Murray looked fantastic again, throwing for 348 yards and three touchdowns. He might be the Heisman front-runner through three weeks. However, the rest of the team looked pretty ordinary on this hot Saturday afternoon in Ames.

7. Auburn – The Tigers fell to LSU who drilled a field goal as time expired. LSU controlled the ball for 35 minutes and recorded two interceptions off Jarrett Stidham. Add nine penalties for 111 yards and converting on only 4-12 third downs is a recipe for a loss.

8. Notre Dame – For the second week in a row, Notre Dame needed to stop an inferior opponent on their final possession to escape with a home win. Last week it was Ball State, this week, Vanderbilt who has made Notre Dame look like the most overrated team in America.

9. Stanford – The Cardinal didn’t have to sweat much against UC Davis, even as they played without running back and Heisman hopeful, Bryce Love. In his absence, Trevor Speights ran for 87 yards, but the K.J. Costello – J.J. Arcega-Whiteside connection continues to cause problems for opposing defenses. The duo connected for two more scores.

10. Washington – Quarterback Jake Browning looks like a far cry from the player who threw 38 touchdowns and was a Heisman finalist two years ago. If he can’t be special, the Huskies aren’t going to win the Pac-12. However, running back Myles Gaskin is special and the defense is too, those were the two reasons why they were able to outlast Utah in Salt Lake City.

11. Penn State – Quarterback Trace McSorley tossed his name in the Heisman conversation with his best game of the year. The Nittany Lions signal-caller had a career-high five touchdowns, including three on the ground in the blowout win over Kent State.

12. LSU – Ed Orgeron’s team has the best resume in the nation and should move into the top 7-8 this week after knocking off Auburn. This is their second win over a top-10 team, after beating Miami in the opener. The Tiger defense is nasty and Joe Burrow is doing a nice job managing the game.

13. Virginia Tech – Game canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
