Tom Herman: Texas – Winner

After a horrible first week of the season against Maryland, the Texas Longhorns have done what they have had to do and took the next two games. An uninspired win over Tulsa didn’t say much last week, but defeating USC this week certainly did.

The Longhorns are beginning a stretch of games against quality opponents that will decide which direction their season is going to go. This was a good first test for the program and now they have something to hold onto.

With a little momentum on their side and a top-25 win in the books, they can now turn their attention to TCU and Oklahoma. Winning one of those games would be exactly what fans wanted from the team, a signature victory.

Losing to Maryland is a bad thing, but bouncing back and defeating USC is a good start. Herman’s not expected to make them a playoff team right away but significant progress is certainly expected this season.

They got off to a bit of a slow start against the Trojans, but they came roaring back in the second half to run away with it. Now, they get ready for the stretch run that is conference play.
