NFL quarterback rankings, Week 3: Patrick Mahomes says hello
Trent Dilfer Division
25. Sam Darnold (LW: 27)
The Jets lost, but Darnold moves up a few spots because he continues to show why he’ll be a franchise quarterback for years to come. The USC product threw for 334 yards on 8.1 yards per attempt, albeit with two interceptions staining the day.
24. Blake Bortles (LW: 31)
Bortles deserves to move up significantly after arguably the best afternoon of his NFL career. The Jaguars watched in awe as Bortles threw for 377 yards and four touchdowns against the defending AFC champs, taking apart the Patriots with pinpoint accuracy. If Bortles can be anything close to this player on a regular basis, look out.
23. Ryan Tannehill (LW: 23)
Tannehill didn’t do much to help the Dolphins advance to 2-0, which he why he holds firm here. The former collegiate receiver threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns, allowing the defense and ground game to do the heavy lifting.
22. Case Keenum (LW: 21)
Keenum has to stop throwing interceptions. The Broncos aren’t talented enough to beat decent-to-good teams with four INTs in two games. That said, give Keenum credit for orchestrating the game-winning drive in the final seconds, getting Denver to 2-0.
21. Jimmy Garoppolo (LW: 16)
Garoppolo isn’t playing well to start the season, a fact that has gone under the radar. The 49ers are 1-1, but their golden boy has three touchdowns and a trio of picks. He could have had a devastating fourth interception against the Lions in the final minutes on Sunday, only to be bailed out by an inconsequential holding call.
