2019 NFL Mock Draft: Cardinals nab Ed Oliver
By Brad Weiss
The New England Patriots looked the worst they have in a long time this past weekend, as they went into Jacksonville and were drubbed by the Jaguars. Quarterback Tom Brady was very visibly upset at his teammates, especially after going down 14-0 after one quarter, and he could not muster up enough magic to pull out the victory.
For New England, this is just another bump in the road, and they will likely meet back up with the Jaguars during the playoffs for the second straight year. Last season, the Jaguars led by ten points over the Patriots heading into the fourth quarter of the AFC title game, only to see Brady break their hearts, and send the Pats back to the Super Bowl.
When it comes time for the Patriots to draft in the 2019 NFL Draft, they will likely be at the bottom of the first round, where they should look to draft Brady’s successor. We talk all the time about the fact that Brady has defied Father Time, but the Patriots organization is not stupid, and a succession plan has to be worked out.
Drew Lock from Missouri is a quarterback who has first round talent, and he actually could be the first one off the board next April. However, if he is available late in round one, he would be an absolute steal, and you could sit him behind Brady for a year or two before handing him the keys to the franchise.
