6. Arizona Cardinals: Season is over

I thought the Arizona Cardinals were going to be close to decent this season. I was wrong.

Through two weeks, it’s clear the Cardinals made a mistake in hiring Mike McCoy as the offensive coordinator, and that the actual talent they have on the roster can’t overcome the lack of depth elsewhere. The Bills’ roster is worse, but the Cardinals have performed worse. Coaching is a difference-maker even on the league’s bottom feeders.

The offensive line and receiver play hasn’t been good enough to even consider playing Josh Rosen yet. Sam Bradford is a functional quarterback when he’s protected, but he’s worthless on this unit. His 90-yards on 27 attempts last week was a rare NFL accomplishment, and a horrific viewing experience.

Most disturbing is how David Johnson isn’t being used. He has just 28 touches in two games. He should be heavily force-fed either as a runner or put him out wide and utilize his receiving skill to challenge defenses.

This is a team that doesn’t play to any of their strengths. They allowed Jamar Taylor to be one-on-one with Brandin Cooks last week, which led to a huge play downfield as the Rams were ecstatic to take that matchup. Quality staffs don’t allow those emergency situations to happen consistently.

Their schedule won’t ease up the rest of the way, either. Seattle and Detroit are the two games that look winnable right now, but this is a team needing a massive change in strategy to push for a playoff spot.
