6. Trace McSorley, QB, Penn State

It’s not always pretty with Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Trace McSorley. Fairly often, he makes plays that really make you scratch your head and wonder what he’s thinking. At the end of the day, however, he’s still looking incredibly productive and leading his team to big wins, like their 63-24 triumph over Illinois on Friday night in Week 4.

McSorley’s line, although not traditional by any means, ultimately ended up being quite impressive in the win. The Penn State thrower finished the night going 12-of-19 for 160 yards, but also threw three touchdowns and just a single interception. As has been the case all year, he also helped his cause with his legs, taking 15 rushes on the night for 92 yards, though he did fail to rush for a score for the first time this season. Even still, he did nothing to lessen his stock in this race all that much.

5. McKenzie Milton, QB, UCF

To stay in the Heisman Trophy race in a serious way, UCF Knights quarterback McKenzie Milton needed to do something big in a Week 4 matchup against Lane Kiffin and Florida Atlantic. After all, the junior signal-caller was coming off having a game canceled in Week 3 and a game where he threw three interceptions prior to that. Put simply, something massive was needed for him to be inserted into the conversation.

In an offensive shootout, Milton delivered a monstrous performance that he needed in this race. The Knights quarterback finished the night going 21-of-32 for 306 yards and three touchdowns while throwing no picks. He wasn’t remotely done there, however, as he also rushed for 81 yards and another three touchdowns, giving him six for the night. If he can continue to lead the UCF offense in that manner, he’ll be looking at an invitation to New York City.
