6. Fresno State Bulldogs (MWC) 2-1

The Bulldogs keep their spot at No. 6 after a bye in Week 4. With San Diego St. looking unimpressive in their win, Fresno St. is now second only to Boise St. in the Mountain West. They have one more non-conference game in Week 5 before finishing the season with eight straight conference games.

Up next: Saturday vs. Toledo.

5. Appalachian State Mountaineers (SBC) 2-1

The Mountaineers had no trouble with FCS-level Gardner-Webb in Week 4, cruising to a  72-7 victory. Most of the damage was done in the first half, as Appalachian State scored seven touchdowns and a field goal to take a 52-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Eight different players crossed the goal line for the Mountaineers, including two members of their special teams as they scored on a punt return and blocked punt. They finished with 692 yards of offense and 31 first downs in the game while holding the Runnin’ Bulldogs to only 160 yards.

Up next: Saturday vs, South Alabama.
