The Colorado Avalanche are ready to get the 2018-2019 season rolling, here is a preview of what to expect going into the season.

In 2017-2018 the Colorado Avalanche surprised everyone with a great come back season where they jumped from 48-wins to 95-wins. Almost doubling their record from the year before, not only that they made the playoffs as a wild card. They gave the Predators a run for there money even if they ultimately got eliminated in the first round.

The Avalanche are going into the season hoping to prove that 2017-2018 was not a fluke , that they are legitimate contenders. They are one of the youngest teams in the NHL and they feel that another year of development will be just as good as if they made a big move. They are good team that will only get better .  If Colorado can stay healthy they could be a dangerous force to reckon with this season, even though they may not be as deep as other teams in the Central Division expect good things from this team going forward.

Offseason Review

Additions : Ian Cole, Philipp Grubauer and David Warsofsky.

Losses: Blake Comeau , Jonathan Bernier, and Nail Yakupov.

Retained: Matt Nieto, Mark Barberio, Mark Alt, and Patrik Nemeth.

The Colorado Avalanche got better this offseason. Even though they only made minor moves it did help them to add some needed depth to the roster. The biggest addition would be goaltender Philipp Grubauer, who they signed in the offseason, he gives another option at the goaltending position, he can fill in whenever they need him too. The Avalanche like Semyon Varlmaov who is expected to be the starter but he does have a problem with injuries.

The Avalanche  did not make any big moves but they added to their depth with players like Ian Cole and David Warsofsky. Also retaining Matt Neito and Mark Barberio was good for the Avalanche since they know how productive they can be. Colorado will have to make up for losing Blake Comeau who was very productive and reliable. So they will need some of the new guys to step up and help out with the bottom  two lines.

2018-2019 Outlook

The Colorado Avalanche look to be a playoff contender once again with an improved team They seem to have improved their defense with a few moves this offseason . Their young core group of players hope to build on their surprising season. Expect big things from the 2018-2019 Colorado Avalanche on their quest to the playoffs.

Nathan MacKinnon has made statement that he is one of the NHL’s biggest stars, in 74 games last season he scored 97 points. Which is by far his best season and he hopes to make this season even better than the last. His line mates Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen were productive last season and they help round out a stellar first line with speed and scoring abilities. These three players will be key to Colorado being able to win games because they are a very dangerous group.

The Avalanche need to show some improvement on their defense. Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson will once again lead the defense and hope the rest can fall in place. They did make a few moves to get some depth on defense. They need to be able to defend against tough teams like the Wild and Predators. The Avalanche have a good chance of making the playoffs, they are getting better every year .
