Loser: Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 23 to unranked)

You would think that Mississippi State would be hungry to make Dan Mullen’s homecoming to Starkville a forgettable one, sending his new team home with a resounding loss, but the Bulldogs came out flat on Saturday and they couldn’t get anything going offensively.

Losing to the former head coach was devastating, especially since Joe Moorhead was supposed to be an offensive genius and his team could only muster six points at home against Florida.

Nick Fitzgerald looked off all game long, finishing 11-for-26 with just 98 yards while rushing for 32 more. That’s not the type of game you expect from a multi-year starter at quarterback in a big home game which could be used to make a statement in the SEC, but Fitzgerald’s season has been as up-and-down as any quarterback’s in the conference.

Mississippi State will face a long uphill battle if it wants to get back into the rankings this season, but getting that offense back on track after scoring just six points should be the top priority.

Things don’t get easier for the Bulldogs as four of their next five games could be losses — Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama await.
