Heisman Watch 2018: Three new stars emerge, Will Grier slightly slides
2018 Stats: 98 of 136, 1487 yds, 17 TD, 3 INT
Next Game: vs Kansas
Will Grier still looks like the most polished quarterback in the nation right now, but his second half against Texas Tech left a lot to be desired, hence his drop from the top spot this week.
The Red Raiders gave up a lot of points and yardage early in this game, but stopped Grier and the Mountaineers cold in the second half, including being nearly perfect in stopping 3rd down conversion attempts by WVU.
Although Grier did throw for three touchdowns, he found himself scrambling more than usual and picking himself up a couple of times after being sacked. Things won’t get any easier against 2-3 Kansas.
The Jayhawks – who have long been the doormat of the Big 12 – are playing with a renewed confidence this season, and would like nothing more than to add No. 9 West Virginia to their list of upsets in the past decade.
Grier will be going up against the No. 49 pass defense in the country, but the Jayhawks have yet to really face a quarterback and receiving corps to the level they’ll see in this game. As long as Grier doesn’t get sloppy or complacent, he should have another big game to add to his stellar season.
