Okay, so I may have been a little snarky in the intro but there actually should be some good matches on the WWE Super Show-Down card. Let’s take a look at the bouts we’ll get from Melbourne on Saturday.

Full match card

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander vs. Buddy Murphy

lf this pay-per-view had a kickoff show, this match between WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander (who is actually only about three weeks away from breaking Neville’s record of 197 days with the belt since it was resurrected) and Buddy Murphy would likely be on it. It’s not to say that it won’t be a good match, but the cruiserweights just aren’t getting that much attention anymore. 205 Live is certainly better than it was a year ago but it’s never going to be the big topic of conversation.

Prediction: My guess is that WWE doesn’t want Neville’s name associated with the longest reign so I’ll go with Cedric Alexander retaining his title.

Asuka and Naomi vs. The IIconics

Remember when Asuka was this unstoppable empress that was the focal point of the women’s division? Doesn’t seem like that long ago, does it? Now, she’s stuck in this weird partnership with Naomi, and The IIconics (just take it down to one “I” and be done with it, please) have been targeting them over the past few weeks and it’s all come down to this. Yawn.

Prediction: I think Asuka continues her downward spiral as The IIconics continue their dominance over the two former champions, and I can see this moving forward towars Evolution at the end of the month.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day vs. The Bar

How Sheamus and Cesaro actually got this shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championship is still a bit of mystery, but they’re ready to once again take on The New Day and I’ve got no problem with that. We know that these two teams can put on a show, as evidenced by that instant classic that recently took place on SmackDown Live, and I’m looking forward to seeing another one here.

Prediction: The Bar hasn’t been a big feature in recent months and it’s doubtful that they’ll be getting a title run at this point. I’ll go with The New Day.

John Cena and Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens & Elias

This was originally planned as a singles match with a returning John Cena taking on Kevin Owens, which I was really looking forward to as those two have put on some fantastic matches in the past. But now we’ve got a tag match with Cena partnering up with Bobby Lashley and Elias joining KO, and I’m not quite as excited. The Lashley-Owens program certainly hasn’t been the greatest thing either of them has ever done, and while Elias is a fun character, he hasn’t gotten to the point that I thought he’d be at by now. This could be fun enough for the live crowd but it really means nothing moving forward.

Prediction: If I had to go with percentages here, I’d say it’s a 99.9999999 percent certainty that John Cena picks up the win for he and Lashley. It’s Cena and it’d be a big pop, so we’ll go with that.

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz (No. 1 Contendership for the WWE Championship)

Daniel Bryan hasn’t had the best of luck in this program with The Miz, losing not only in their match at SummerSlam but also in the mixed tag that nobody wanted to see at Hell in a Cell. For as long as this rivalry has been happening, I’ve wanted this to go to the next level, but it just hasn’t. It’s not that the match at SummerSlam was bad or that the segments haven’t been entertaining but I was hoping for more … but not in the way I think it’s going to come.

Prediction: With a shot at the WWE Championship on the line, I think The Miz once again comes out on top. Whether or not it’s a clean win is up in the air, but I really do believe The A-Lister gets the victory here and goes on to become WWE Champion. WWE knows that Daniel Bryan chasing the title works, and he’ll chase it until he finally defeats The Miz at WrestleMania 35.

Ronda Rousey and The Bella Twins vs. The Riott Squad

The build for this has been decent as there’s been some solid matches involving these participants the last few weeks. It’s still unfortunate that the RAW Women’s Championship isn’t being defended here, but this could be entertaining enough if Ronda does most of the work for her team. The Riott Squad has looked very good lately but are being put in a no-win situation here.

Prediction: If I wanted to be mean here, I’d predict that Brie Bella either hurts herself or a member of The Riott Squad but that’s just not the type of person I am .. .even if the likelihood is high. But the point of this whole thing is to somehow start the program between Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella, who will likely be headlining Evolution. I don’t think it goes as far as Nikki turning and giving Ronda her first loss, even if that would make the most sense. Perhaps we’ll be getting the face vs. face thing with Nikki just simply asking for a title shot in the next week or two.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

I’ll take as much of this rivalry as I can get. Since Becky Lynch turned on Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam, this has been one of the best storylines in WWE, and this match has the chance to be somewhat of a show-stealer in Melbourne. The intensity has been there throughout, and they’ve simply been telling great stories.

Prediction: If WWE wants this to continue all the way to Evolution, Charlotte Flair may need to get the title back. This program seems very similar to the one Charlotte had with Sasha Banks a few years back, and the constant title changes may keep coming. So I’ll go with Charlotte here with Becky taking the rematch at Evolution and then a big match in Saudi Arabia … oh wait … that can’t happen.

The Shield vs. Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre

We knew this match was coming at some point, and it’s finally here. The tease of Dean Ambrose turning his back on Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins has been the focal point lately, but I still think it’s too soon for that. As I’ve said, I’m not a fan of not having some of these big titles defended on what’s supposed to be a big show, but this should be a really fun match to watch. Every one of these six competitors have looked great recently and there’s chemistry everywhere.

Prediction: There’s likely to be some sort of strange finish here. I’m just not sure how it happens. Ambrose losing for The Shield would play into a storyline of him being a weak link — he is the only one without a title — and that could create some more animosity. But again, I still think it’s too soon for that. Roman is set up with Braun and Lesnar next month in Saudi Arabia, so he’ll need to look strong in this match, which is never a problem for Strowman. Rollins will still be IC champ when this is over no matter what happens, so what I’d like to see is a big win for Drew McIntyre. Call it an upset but I’ll go with McIntyre pinning Ambrose for the win.

WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe (No Disqualification Match)

Leading into their match at Hell in a Cell last month, it looked as if creative was maybe trying to get away from the personal touch of this rivalry just a bit, but that’s certainly not the case going into this one. Not with Samoa Joe showing up to AJ Styles’ house. Throw in the fact that the WWE Champion actually tapped out during that match before Joe was pinned and this story has only gotten stronger. A No Disqualification Match has been set for Super Show-Down, and this is going to be the match of the night.

Prediction: It’s likely that The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan match will take place before this one and the winner of that match may be a big clue on who wins this one. Honestly, however, I think that this program comes to its conclusion here as AJ Styles gets one more victory over Samoa Joe. This one could get brutal.

The Undertaker vs. Triple H

I’ll admit that the nostalgic side of me is somewhat looking forward to seeing Triple H on one side with Shawn Michaels in his corner and The Undertaker with Kane on the other. Hey, who doesn’t love to see legends? But I fear that this match is not going to be very good. The Undertaker did look to be in good shape when he destroyed John Cena at WrestleMania, but that was three minutes. A Triple H-Undertaker match doesn’t go three minutes. Their “End of an Era” match at WrestleMania 28 inside Hell in a Cell, which includes that amazing exit at the end, should have been the end for these two, but here we are. The battles these two have had for nearly two decades have been classics but I don’t think this will fall into that category.

Prediction: So it’s pretty much set that Shawn Michaels is coming out of retirement to team with Triple H against The Brothers of Destruction next month at Crown Jewel, right? So what exactly does that mean for the finish here? The Undertaker hasn’t had a problem losing in recent years, but those have made some sense. Is it HBK costing ‘Taker the match that gets The Dead Man to allow him to come out of retirement? Or does The Undertaker win, leaving Triple H to beg his best friend to come back to help put ‘Taker down for good? That sounds a bit more plausible, as does Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker one-on-one somewhere down the line.
