College football rankings: AP Top 25 predictions – Big shake-up in Top 10
Are there still people doubting Notre Dame? At this point in the season, that seems pretty silly. The Fighting Irish took care of one of their final tough matchups on Saturday evening, defeating No. 24 Virginia Tech on the road. The Irish improve to 6-0 on the season and are looking like serious College Football Playoff contenders. Ian Book has this team headed in the right direction as he’s been the spark.
Trevor Lawrence was back as the starting quarterback for Clemson after suffering a nearly devastating shoulder injury against Syracuse in Week 5. He looked solid, completing 20-of-25 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, but Travis Etienne was the real star with 167 rushing yards and three scores. Oh yeah, and that Clemson defense was dominant as it held Wake Forest to just three points and 249 total yards on the road.
The Buckeyes got off to a slow start against Indiana and fans were beginning to wonder if this would be that letdown game after a big win. Fortunately, Dwayne Haskins didn’t take any plays off, passing for 455 yards and six touchdowns, putting the team on his back to make a 21-6 run to end the game. A 49-26 win over the Hoosiers doesn’t look all that bad, especially with how well Indiana has played this season.
Are we really surprised Georgia is second still? Voters will be hesitant to make any changes in the top four after another strong week from each of those teams and Georgia hasn’t proven to be anything but the second-best team in the country — in a close battle with Ohio State. Jake Fromm had another sparkling game with 17-of-23 completions and 276 yards with three touchdowns but the run game helped tremendously, averaging 6.4 yards per touch.
Another week, another opponent falling victim to an Alabama thrashing. While Nick Saban would tell you he’s not pleased with his team allowed 31 points to Arkansas, the Crimson Tide offense looked like a well-oiled machine, namely Tua Tagovailoa. He had just 10 completions on 13 attempts and still accounted for 334 yards passing and four touchdowns. Is it too early to give this kid the Heisman Trophy?
