West Virginia reigned supreme for the fifth consecutive week, with a 38-22 win over the lowly Kansas Jayhawks. This kept them in the top 10 of the college football rankings, but not at the top of the Big 12 power rankings, due to the magnitude of Texas’ victory and their previous placement.

It has mostly been smooth for the Mountaineers, aside from a canceled game, as they toppled Kansas State, Texas Tech, Youngstown State and Tennessee to become 5-0. Of course they also haven’t faced the conference’s toughest teams, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas.

Week 7 will provide intrigue, however, after Iowa State took down the Cowboys. So what will become of this showdown?

After a season-changing win in the Red River Rivalry, Texas leapfrogged West Virginia to become the Big 12 power ranking’s No. 1 team. It’s after the opening week adversity of the Maryland loss and the unusually close matchup against Tulsa.

Since then, the Longhorns have rebounded with wins against USC, TCU and the Sooners, which put them at the top of the conference’s hierarchy and into the top 10 in the nation.

A strong performance from quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who had five touchdowns against Oklahoma, led the way in Week 6. That’s along with a multi-score effort from Tre Watson.
