6. Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson

I’ll be the first to admit that I have probably been way too slow to come around on Clemson Tigers running back Travis Etienne. Though this Clemson team has often left a lot to be desired this season, that hasn’t been the case with Etienne. He’s been the driving force for Dabo Swinney’s offense and has saved them numerous times. They didn’t need saving a rout against Wake Forest this week, but Etienne still made sure to shine.

Though the sophomore back only carried the ball 10 times, he more than made up for it. Etienne finished the day taking his 10 totes for 167 yards and three touchdowns. That trio of scores gives him six touchdowns over hi last two games, which goes along with 370 combined rushing yards over the last two games. If he keeps running like this, he’s going to be even higher in these rankings later in the year.

5. Trace McSorley, QB, Penn State

The Penn State Nittany Lions had the week off on Saturday, which means that quarterback Trace McSorley also got a breather coming off the loss to Ohio State in Week 5. Given that, we’re not going to knock the dynamic dual-threat quarterback in these rankings for not having a game to prove himself.

It’s rarely pretty watching McSorley on the football field, but he’s not trying to get style points. What he is trying to do is make plays for his team and he’s done that all season while limiting mistakes. McSorley has accounted for 16 touchdowns (10 passing, six rushing) on the season with just two interceptions while accumulating over 1,450 total yards on the year. If he can keep leading Penn State to success through the heart of Big Ten play, he should at least earn an invitation to New York City.
