4. Eric Ebron, TE – Indianapolis Colts

I learned this the hard way last week.

As mentioned earlier, Trey Burton is the No. 1 tight end on my fantasy team. But since he and the Bears were on their bye week, I had to pick up a tight end to start for me in Week 4. I was pretty much deciding between the two best available options — George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers and Eric Ebron of the Indianapolis Colts.

Since the Colts were playing my favorite team, the New England Patriots, last week, I didn’t want to have to root for Ebron to play well against my team, so I went ahead and chose Kittle. And I’ve been regretting it ever since.

I should’ve chose Ebron, because despite the Colts losing 38-24 to the Patriots, he still had a pretty big game. He caught two touchdown passes from Andrew Luck to put up 22.5 points in my ESPN fantasy league, while Kittle only caught five passes to put up 8.3 points.

That was the first serious breakout game for Ebron so far this year, at least from a fantasy standpoint; prior to Week 5, he hadn’t scored more than one touchdown. But sometimes a player just needs one big game to get things going, and he might have another opportunity for a big game as the Colts head to MetLife Stadium to square off with the New York Jets in Week 6.

If Ebron hasn’t already been claimed in your league, he’s another solid option at tight end to have on your roster. As I painfully learned last week, he’s would’ve been worth taking the chance on.
