WR: Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Green Bay Packers

Geronimo Allison and Randall Cobb were both unable to play in the Green Bay Packers 31-23 loss to the Detroit Lions, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling emerged as a credible fantasy option as the Packers No. 2 wide receiver.

Valdes-Scantling’s role in the Packers offense will diminish greatly once both wide receivers return, but it doesn’t look like Cobb will be ready to play in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Allison should be good-to-go, but Valdes-Scantling is worth picking up off of waivers and stashing.

Against Detroit, Valdes-Scantling impressed with 7 receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. He helped move the chains for the Packers offense, whereas fellow unknown wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (any excuse to type his name should be taken) was more of the playmaker with 3 receptions for 89 yards.

Valdes-Scantling is a fourth-round rookie out of USF, so the fact that he was able to haul in the vast majority of Aaron Rodgers’s passes bodes well for his future outlook in this offense. Rodgers is picky about having receivers on the same page (as he should be), and it seems like the 6’4″ wide receiver passed his first test.
