QB: Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Ryan Fitzpatrick had quite an entertaining run as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback before being benched mid-way through the team’s loss to Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears in Week 4. Following the bye week, Jameis Winston will have likely gelled even more with this teammates, and he inherits the same weapons in the passing game that allowed Fitzpatrick to put up video game-like numbers despite his limitations.

Winston has his own issues at quarterback. He struggles with his accuracy, and he throws too many interceptions. That said, he also has even better arm talent than Fitzpatrick, and in spite of his flaws, he is still far less mistake-prone than the overly-ambitious Fitzpatrick.

Owned in about one-quarter of ESPN.com fantasy leagues last week, Winston has been scooped up by many fantasy owners. If he’s still available in your league, you should strongly consider adding him. Quarterback is a talent-rich position, and there’s little variability between quarterbacks now that even more rule changes are favoring offensive output.

However, Winston could be just as good as anyone fantasy-wise, just looking at Fitzpatrick’s numbers. He gets to throw the ball to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, and O.J. Howard, and the Buccaneers offense has no real running game. Throw in the Atlanta Falcons as his Week 6 matchup, and you have a recipe for a possible 400-yard, three-touchdown, Fitzpatrick-like performance from Winston.
