34. Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State

  • Height: 6’0″
  • Weight: 210
  • Class: Redshirt Senior

Penn State corner Amani Oruwariye takes a tumble in this week’s rankings. Last week, he was all the way up at 27 overall, and here he sits at 34 this week. It isn’t a great trend, but he has the opportunity to bring it the rest of the season against top Big Ten competition. As described before, Oruwariye is a great player with the ball in the air, using his frame and ball skills to take passes away. He did pick off passes in back to back weeks to start off the season.

A couple weeks ago, I got front row seats to see him play against Illinois. It didn’t help that he wasn’t targeted much, but when he was, he looked flat footed and lacked some change of direction to mirror receivers. He needs to work on anticipating receiver routes so he doesn’t have to play catch up when he turns and runs.

33. Dre’Mont Jones, DL, Ohio State

  • Height: 6’2″
  • Weight: 295
  • Class: Redshirt Junior

It has been a breakout season for Dre’Mont Jones, who was on this board at the beginning of the season. However, he makes a big leap due to his production and improvement as a defensive lineman this season. Many thought if he came out last season, he would be a day three pick because of how he plays. This season, it’s been a different story.

Jones is still a very athletic defensive lineman with the great lateral quickness to get around blocks and get into the backfield. He has done that a ton this season, and his seven and a half tackles for loss and four and a half sacks show that. He even has a pick-six on the season, mostly due to that ability to get into the backfield quickly off the snap. It will be tough to rise in the ranks of interior linemen, but Jones is doing just that.
